Director of Pet Quality & Education
The Director of Pet Quality and Education is in charge of leading the live pet quality and education team for our client’s organization. The leader sets the strategic vision for the team along with supporting the overarching strategy. The incumbent is responsible for reducing live pet loss and health issues and will work with internal and external partners to develop action plans and improve health standards. This leader will travel to conduct live animal/farm audits throughout North America and will perform additional audits, technical review and/or safety testing at the office to ensure safety and quality is maintained.
This role will be the driver of pet education and will leverage external industry partnerships with regards to zoonotic disease prevention, pet care and ownership and will develop relationships with vendors to comply with Vet Assured Standards. The Director will ensure the education of clients by developing and reviewing educational videos, written materials and training documents for both store associates and the general public as well as contributing to the policies and procedures for animal care and the training of associates.
The incumbent will develop strategy for the team and will support the overall strategy and will manage the Pet Quality and Education team. The incumbent will assist attending veterinarians with live pet health questions and concerns from stores and clients. The incumbent will develop and maintain external partnerships with groups that help designate the organization as a leader in the industry, including the CDC, public health and state veterinarians. The incumbent will oversee store habitat design/functionality and provide information regarding the care of pets housed in the habitat. The incumbent will coordinate testing and/or recalls using the Live Pet Incident Response Plan. The incumbent will develop and review educational videos, written materials, training documents, etc. for both associates as well as for the public.
Qualifications include a Doctor of Veterinary Medical or Veterinary Medical Doctor degree from an AVMA accredited four-year college or university. The successful candidate will have a proven history of leadership within a corporate environment (business/retail/merchandising) with experience in live pets, animal health management, public health, and/or government agencies and policy. Candidate must have experience with the care of Specialty pets and knowledge of Animal Health including, but not limited to dog, cat, small animal, reptile and aquatic species.
Other qualifications include strong project and process management experience with proven history of managing complex projects, innovative problem solving skills and the ability to conduct multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and to work with shifting priorities and schedules are needed with ability to methodically and efficiently synthesizes large volumes of information from diverse sources to compile data, prepare quantitative and qualitative management reports and present/recommend concepts and ideas. Ability to communicate technical information and the business risk effectively, strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, presentation and report writing/structuring skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft suite of products required.
